Call on Syrian Youth: ‘Make Your Voices Heard’

The Munathara Initiative, alongside the Global Political Trends Center (GPoT) and IREX, are calling on young Syrians to make their voices heard by submitting a short video detailing their visions for Syria’s future. Ten winners will be determined through an online vote and will be brought to Istanbul Kultur University to participate in a workshop and debate on September 16 through 18.

In a written statement on its website, Munathara says, “…[W]e hear the least from Syrian youth – who initiated the Syrian revolution and make up more than 60 percent of Syria’s population.” Thus Munathara, GPoT, and IREX have partnered for the Youth Leaders of Tomorrow, an initiative to prepare young Syrians for their roles in an open and transparent Syria in the future.

Young Syrians who are interested in participating in the debate can submit their 99-second videos to Munathara.

Organizers held an outreach workshop August 12 and 13 in Istanbul. Participants were taught debate techniques and styles, and given the tools to record the 99-second videos for submission. Trainers emphasized the importance of debates to a democracy, such as how discussing differing opinions helps people formulate more informed opinions.
