Empowering Educators Through Sharing

“Teachers and schools tend to work in isolation. And yet most of us have shared struggles in the classroom.” Out of this insight, Sara Sibai, along with Mahmoud Natout, Maysa Mourad, and Moataz Tayara, co-created LIFT–Leadership Initiative for Teachers–to replace this de facto isolation with a shared space of innovation and boost both teachers’ morale and the quality of Lebanese education.

LIFT aims to “give a voice to teachers who have innovated“, connecting them in real and virtual space to one another and to supportive policy makers, parents, activists, and researchers. The fledgling group has already gathered a groundswell of support, and on August 19 completed a $6,000 online crowdfunding campaign in less than six weeks.

Organizers are now creating an online platform where educators can recount their struggles and breakthroughs via multimedia. This will be coupled with annual conferences that will celebrate teachers’ stories and share their pioneering educational practices.
