Fighting Global Warming by Biking

Ahmad Alnoubani is taking his beliefs to the streets–on two wheels. Hoping that we should all fight to stop climate change, the environmental activist and national coordinator of Jordan’s Arab Youth Climate Movement (AYCM) has come up with a simple way to do so: encourage people to give up their cars and start bicycling instead, thus reducing carbon emissions, decreasing traffic, saving money, and improving cyclists’ health.

Alnoubani and his friends have launched a campaign, “Bike Lovers Jordan“, to establish bike lanes on main streets. They plan to ride in Fitness One Gym’s bike ride in Madaba on September 31, and have joined forces with Global Power Shift GPS Movement and the AYCM to raise funds from international sponsors.

Meanwhile, Alnoubani is working by biking: scouting the streets for problems future cyclists may face. “Cyclists are society and the environment’s best friends,” he says. “They can simultaneously conserve nature, save money, and enjoy their time by cycling.”
