The Spirit of Entrepreneurship

A startup group of 3 innovative 16 year old girls from Yemen, called Creative Generation – and a creative one indeed – came up with a solution to the constant power outages in their country in the form of three solar-powered and low-cost inventions. They managed to gain recognition during the annual national INJAZ Young Entrepreneurs Competition in Yemen, and they won the ‘Best Company Award’ in Doha at the 6th annual regional INJAZ Al-Arab Young Entrepreneurs Competition. The high school girls got even luckier when the largest telecommunications firm in Africa – MTN – gave them a grant of $15,000 as seed money.

This is just one of the many success stories that were brought to light through the efforts of INJAZ Al-Arab, a nonprofit organization working together with the private and public sectors “by equipping Arab youth with practical business-related skills through the hands-on mentorship of business leaders,” shares Communications Manager Julie Manneh. Part of Junior Achievement Worldwide, this organization operates in 15 different countries in the MENA region and has impacted over 1.5 million students since its inception in 2004.
