“Yes, there is misery. Yes, there is suffering,”  says Ehab Shanti, CEO and founder of Alhoush.com. “But if you scratch the surface, Palestine is bursting with creativity”.

This week in Dubai’s Meydan IMAX, that creativity takes center stage at “This Is Palestine”, a celebration of Palestinian art and culture. It features a dazzling array of luminaries—including the clarion poetry of Farah Chamma, Hind Shoufani, Dana Dajani, the over-the-top comedy of Amer Zahr and Maysoon Zayid, and the heart-punching hip-hop tracks of Ledr P. Boikutt and Shadia Mansour. Writer and actor Najla Said will perform excerpts from her one-woman off-Broadway play, “Palestine”, which deftly interweaves the personal and political into a luminously candid journey.

Palestine, the event’s stellar line-up implies, contains multitudes, and is already realized in the myriad inspired acts of its people—including over 200 photographs, paintings, and other works of art for sale. Sponsored by the UNDP and Alhoush, the premiere e-commerce portal for Arab artists and designers, the event “aims to show a different side of Palestine to the world,” Shanti explains. “We hope it will be a stepping stone to building a positive national brand. Art has the power to change reality.
