My Grandmother’s House: Passing On Delicious Secrets

As you walk down through the streets of Webdeh, along its hidden staircases leading street to street all the way to downtown, you come across Beit Sitti, Arabic for “my grandmother’s house”. There Maria Haddad teaches her guests her late grandmother’s recipes in the very home where her granny taught her. The scent of jasmine fills the air while Faiyruz plays softly in the background. Maria makes sure you have something fresh and natural to drink, and makes you feel right at home. Then with enthusiasm, the lively cooking course begins. Maria supports the surrounding community by bringing local women to help her teach and let us in on some of their secrets. Most deliciously, all the spices and ingredients are homemade, collected from various women and farmers around the kingdom.
