5 Free Apps to Boost Your Ramadan Spirit

Happy Ramadan! To help you start off the Holy Month the right way, we have compiled a selection of helpful phone applications with time calculators for prayers, Halal restaurants, stories for children and more!

1. Muslim Pro – Ramadan 2014: Available for Iphone, Ipad, and Android systems, this popular app offers not only an accurate time calculator for prayers based on your location, but also Halal restaurants and mosques locations around you, an animated qibla compass to show you the direction to Mecca, a Muslim Hijri calendar, and full translations of the Quran in several languages.
2. Ramadan Race: Though not massively downloaded, we found this app an ingenious take on motivating young Muslims to formulate their own goals. Available for Android, the app was created in 2012 following an even held in Sydney to inspire Australian Muslims to take actions for Ramadan. Some of its highlights are motivational videos, a list of links to Islamic humanitarian aids and funds to donate Zakat, and minute Energisers (heavily rewarded duas that one could utilize when having a few minutes).
3. Ramadan Mubarak Happy Ramadan! is our application of choice for the little ones. Through fun stories told with a rhymic melody, children get immersed in the Muslim month of fasting. Developed by Suzanne Muir and Available for iOS, it presents animated features, cool sound effects, and a special Eid game.
4. Ramadan Tracker specifically caters to New Muslims going through Ramadan for the first time. It helps them set a target and meet the goal by checking items off, such as fasting, doing charity work, reciting the five daily prayers, and additional prayers. The highlight is that at the end of each goal, you get to score points! It’s available only in iOS.
5. Quran Android: With over 10 million downloads and 200,000 user reviews, the app is considered to be the best Quran application on the market. It presents the Quran with text in Arabic, transcriptions, and translated versions to choose. Available on and Android for free, it is an open source project, which means anyone can contribute and help improve it.
