3 Incredibly Cool Opportunities to Volunteer in Egypt

Picture this: you are teaching children in a Bedouin school while interacting with a fascinating culture against the backdrop of reddish mountains that outline the Red Sea. Do you love kids, but are not that much into teaching? Or do you prefer working for the environment while discovering the Red Sea’s reefs? BarakaBits has picked three fascinating volunteering opportunities that offer a well-rounded program to genuinely contribute to the community while making the experience an unforgettable one.

1) Teaching Bedouin children in Dahab

The Birds of Paradise Hadana project in Dahab, South Sinai, is looking for enthusiastic volunteer kindergarten teachers to tutor children aged from 3 to 5. The school, founded and managed by a Bedouin young woman, is an exceptional opportunity to connect and interact with one of the most interesting tribes in the world. The opportunity is open to Dahab residents as well as people from other countries, who are offered free accommodation and breakfast at local hotels, such as Dahab Paradise, in return for teaching their staff English 15 hours per week. Interested volunteers can contact the school through their Facebook group, and they will connect them with a hosting hotel.

2) Taking Egyptian children on a journey around the world

Have you ever experienced the magic of helping a child literally discover the world? You don’t need to take him overseas: Safarni organizes intercultural learning journey where children get the chance to meet foreigners and taste, listen, watch and dance to their cultures while learning to appreciate diversity as a source of richness. The offer is open for Egyptians and Non-Egyptians living in Cairo, which are invited to participate on specific dates for the imaginary trips. Application details are available here, and are open until 24 September.

3) Helping conserve the Red Sea Coral reef

Nature lovers and sea enthusiasts will find their perfect match at the Red Sea Environmental Center. Located also in Dahab, the center runs a fieldstation dedicated to marine science and conservation particulary devoted to the preservation of the Red Sea coral reefs. We can help make a difference by learning more about coral reefs and collecting valuable data to establish the state of coral reefs. Conservation volunteering projects include long-term schemes (for 5 weeks or more) as well as shorter alternatives, available for 2 weeks to divers, students, and non-students.
