Just When You Think the Entire World Has Gone Mad, You Encounter this Love Story

Meet little Hiba and Saleh. “Originally from the infamous east Ghouta area in rural Damascus, they are today neighbors in Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp”. Joelle Eid, a UN World Food Program spokesperson working in Zaatari, could not help but notice the tenderness of this kids’ relationship as she saw them in the organization’s supermarket. “He follows her everywhere she goes, and she makes sure he is holding her hand at all times,” she said.

Hiba and Saleh are both six years old. “They both came with Hiba’s mom who had some groceries she needed to buy,” Eid told BarakaBits. Opened in the north of Jordan in 2012 to host Syrians fleeing the civil war, Zaatari is the second-largest refugee camp in the world, currently housing 79,180 refugees ,according to UNHCR.

“Just when you think the entire world has gone mad,” the photograhper says. “When reading and watching the news becomes a daily nightmare. Just then, you encounter a love story in Zaatari”.
