SNEAK PEEK: Palestine’s Fearless ‘Speed Sisters’ Launch Documentary Film

The Speed Sisters, the Middle East’s first all-women street car racing team, launched their documentary film last December 1 at the Doha Film Insitute’s (DFI) annual Ajyal Youth Film Festival.

Directed by Lebanese-Canadian director Amber Fares, the documentary was produced with the support of a DFI grant and thousands of backers who contributed to their online crowdfunding campaign. Fares, who began documenting the group of racers in 2010, illustrates the realities of war-beaten West Bank, where these woman racers challenge social expectations while escaping the pressure of living under occupation.

Speed Sisters is a story about five fiercely determined women and their drive to break through the obstacles in their lives in order to stay true to themselves and their dreams,” she told Doha news.
