From a Personal Loss To a Life-Changing Invention: Meet Walaa Aniba

Walaa Aniba is a young Tunisian innovator who decided to turn her pain into a struggle to help others and prevent tragic accidents. “I got the idea from a very personal experience. I lost my best friend in a car accident; she was hit by a car when she was riding a bike and listening to the music using regular headphones,” she tells BarakaBits.

Her invention, the Smart and Safe Headphones AMICA, developed together with her partner Wael Belhaj, has been awarded the fifth place at the Stars of Science reality TV show, and is now one of the 20 finalists at the MIT Entrepreneurship Forum Arab Start-up Competition

“The incident deeply affected me and pushed me to look for a solution to the problem of accidents caused by regular headphones, especially since recent studies in the field of traffic safety have proven that these headphones have a huge incidence,” she explains.

Walaa believes her invention has the potential to save lives while still allowing people to listen to their favorite music. The most important challenge now, she says, is to turn this final model into a product available in all world markets and accessible to all consumers.

Competing in the Ideas Track, Walaa hopes to showcase her prototype to as many investors as possible as the Competition kicks off next April 16 in Kuwait City.
