Social Beings at Beirut Design Week 2015

An event that curates, cultivates and shares Arab talent, Beirut Design Week will be running the first week of June. Focusing on the theme “Social Beings”, the design week will discuss creative economy, design education, social impact, entrepreneurship and intercultural exchange. Beirut Design Week seeks to get the audience involved with all things design, shedding a light on the impact design can make while highlighting the myriad talents that live and work in Beirut. Organized by the non-profit MENA Design Research Center, the event aims to promote a broad lens of understanding in the vast field of design.
Throughout the week, kicking off June 1, 150 events spread throughout 100 different locations in Beirut will celebrate the diversity and calibre of talent found in this Arab capital. There will also be an international conference, which will take place over the course of 2 days, and will feature the likes of designers and institutions like the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, Parsons New York and Bang & Olfusen to name a few. There will also be a Dutch Design Exhibition with 12 talented design studios from the Netherlands and a Finnish Design exhibition, in addition to a collection of Lebanese design work entitled “Based in Beirut”, featuring the makings of young local designers. All of these exhibitions will launch at Beirut Souks at 6pm on June 1. If you’re in Beirut, be sure to attend some of the inspiring events happening this week!
