Landscapes of Hope Celebrates Syrian and Arab Art

Realizing its importance, many parts of the world often celebrate art.  A few days ago in Berlin, an event was held to celebrate Syrian Art. “Landscapes of Hope”, an event hosted by Action for Hope, is a celebration of heartfelt connections, new ideas, beautiful sounds, and memorable images.

The event kicked off on October, 1st and continued on till the 3rd. Several stages opened to display many performances and exhibitions of arts depicting what it means to be Syrian and Arab. Landscapes of Hope provided a platform for presenting and discussing Syrian arts today, within the context of the large scale displacement of Syrians into Europe.

The event was held at Radialsystem V, Berlin. Hosting concerts, dance performances, story-telling, literary readings, cooking shows, film screening and discussions, this event was an important occasion to meet and get to know some of the most exciting Syrian and Arab artists!

Fares Heluo, a Syrian artist was one of the keynote speakers opening the event, which was followed by a reception and the opening of the exhibition “No Homes in the Camp” by artist Hamdy Reda.

According to their Facebook page, Landscapes for Hope was organized under the patronage of the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Ettijahat – Independent Culture. The event, and Action for Hope’s programs in Lebanon and Jordan, were supported by  Ford Foundation, Allianz Kulturstiftung, Stichting DOEN, Open Society Foundations, Goethe-Institut, British Council, Aga Khan Music Initiative, ONDA, and Ghiath & Nadia Sukhtian.

Admission was free and language wasn’t a barrier since all events were presented in Arabic and German, with simultaneous translation into both languages.

The event was an amazing way to bring to light the refugee crisis, as well as a portrayal of creative artists who incorporate their experiences into their art.
