Training Youth to Take the Helm

Studying young women’s dreams to build a better future is but one of the strategies of the Youth Leadership Development Forum. The YLDF gives over 1,200 Yemeni young people—particularly women, underprivileged and “future youth” as young as eight years old—the hard and soft skills they need to move from the margins to the center of their society.

Their challenges range from illiteracy to unemployment, which stands at 60 percent; young women comprise a mere eight percent of the active labor force. Building on the work of an all-female language center with which it’s incorporated, the forum continues to provide girls with a safe learning environment, offering scholarships to women from traditionally restricted backgrounds, along with alternative classes in English, computer and business skills, and workshops in networking and leadership.

On August 28, their latest youth leadership workshop will kick off, giving another constellation of brilliant young people their chance to shine.
