Today is the last chance to vote to better Syrian scientists’ lot and spread scientific understanding further throughout the region via Mouhannad Malek’s research and media initiative. Malek’s idea is simple: to found a one-of-a-kind science channel, 100% in Arabic, that would popularize scientific knowledge and projects throughout the Arab world, and fund Syrian students’ studies at top universities.
The proposal has made it through the first round of 320Reality’s video competition, which will award $20,000, $10,000, and $5,000 to the top three projects to change the Middle East for the better. With the top 10 videos set to advance to the final round this week, Malek’s appeal is generating a growing online buzz. His campaign against ignorance is backed by the Syrian Researchers group, an online community run by 150 female and male Syrians from all scientific fields dedicated to translating and disseminating studies into Arabic, and to supporting the advancement of creative Syrians.
