Helping Wild Animals Feel at Home

The Abu Dhabi Wildlife Centre (ADWC) works to rescue wild animals from enclosed spaces—like people’s cars. In recent years, it has been a growing trend in the UAE to own cheetahs, lions, tigers and other wild animals.

The folks at ADWC have found a range of wild animals at Emirati’s homes, including endangered species like Bengal tigers and white lions. Oftentimes, the wild cats are declawed and their sharp teeth are taken out so they’re “less dangerous”, but that also means they can’t eat the meat they need and have no chance of surviving in the wild.

ADWC attends to the animals medical needs, and they give them a space to live in, food to eat and try to introduce playmates. They have also worked to breed the animals and reintroduce the cubs into the wild, so that the species can survive.

To raise awareness, ADWC teaches tour groups of young students the importance of letting these animals live their lives in the wild.
