Do you really know how fast a cheetah can run, or how food can be cooked for 50,000 people without using electricity?
This November in Jordan, Palestine and the UAE, the first-ever edition of the Science Film Festival in the Arab World is screening movies with the answers to these questions and many more. Established by the Goethe Institute in 2005 to promote science literacy and provide fresh perspectives on scientific, technological and environmental issues, the SFF uses audio-visual media, activities and workshops to inspire enthusiasm for scientific knowledge among the public.
“Wouldn’t you have loved to see interesting films in your science classes instead of memorizing formulas for the baccalaureate?” asks Dr. Christiane Krämer-Hus-Hus, director of the Goethe Institute in Jordan, where the Jordan Children’s Museum is hosting the festival from November 18 to 28. “Education is the key factor for the development of the country,” she adds “[which] is a hub for education in the Arab world.”
