Defending Childhood with Drawing

Two child laborers

The 11th National Children’s Conference, hosted by the Palestinian Child Arts Center, focused on protecting children from economic exploitation under the banner “Save My Childhood with Law and Community Responsibility”.

Held at Birzeit on October 23 – 24 in cooperation with Defense for Children International Palestine, the conference discussed the various forms of child labor in Palestine, and offered child laborers a safe space in which to express their ideas and future ambitions through drawing. Following the seminar, the children of Balata refugee camp put on a puppet theater performance about the daily hardships and psychological traumas that these small workers weather, and an exhibition of children’s photographs and drawings depicting their work.

Established in Hebron in 1994, the PCAC strives to provide local children with a peaceful place to live in, responsibility for their natural environment, and guaranteed access to educational and intellectual activities.
