Sowing the Field for Literary Victories

On November 2, the Tamer Institute for Community Education launched the fourth annual “Read to me, Baba” in all Palestinian governorates, inviting parents to share books, tell stories and draw pictures of dreams with their children to open a dialogue between generations and deepen participants’ involvement with Palestinian culture, heritage and land.

In Bethlehem and the Old City of Jerusalem, a storyteller led families on a walking tour of local history, while in Shouka Village in the Gaza Strip, 170 parents gathered, including one illiterate father who, determined to participate, told a story instead. After a library workshop, one parent exclaimed, “I never felt so comfortable with having a child when I don’t have to worry about feeding him, but rather about the stories we create together.”

Tamer works throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip to provide Palestinians with inspiring opportunities for intellectual and spiritual enlightenment to build a civilized Palestinian society.
