The Truth about (Misunderstood) Music

Music activist Hassan Dennaoui is doing everything in his power to amplify the voice of the voiceless. For Dennaoui, aka “Big Hass”, that voice is the core of hip-hop, and he’s made it his mission to spread the word that the musical genre is not about bling and drinking but about elevating people’s minds and inspiring them to create social change.

Two years ago he founded Saudi Arabia‘s first ever hip-hop radio show, “Why Hip-Hop”, which airs Saturday nights on Mix FM. This month he published the first issue of Re-Volt Magazine as a new platform to promote real Arab hip-hop. The name is a hybrid of “revolution” and “voltage”, and expresses his revulsion at “commercial and meaningless contents that are daily fed to us by the entertainment industry,” he says.

To engage youth with another organization spreading positivity across the region, Big Hass is sponsoring a design contest for the best Barak Bits ad. The winning ad will be chosen by the community and published in an upcoming issue of Re-Volt.
