Urgent Care for Kids

The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund has been doing good work for more than 20 years. The organization’s unwavering mission remains: to treat every child in the Middle East who needs surgery not available to them locally.

In mid-November, this care saved the life of an 18-month-old Syrian baby, Sara Kashou, who received open-heart surgery from Dr. Giancarlo Crupi at Bergamo Hospital in Italy. In Cincinnati, the PCRF helped another Syrian, 9-year-old Rawan Mubarak, to get the operation she needed and a new prosthetic arm after she had lost her limb in a bombing last year.

The PCRF also aims to improve medical care in the Middle East, and in the West Bank and Gaza in particular, by sending equipment to the region and training Palestinian medical personnel. In addition, it brings teams of doctors to local hospitals, such as the four-person neurosurgery team that spent the first week of November operating at Rafidia Hospital in Nablus. And it runs various humanitarian missions, including empowering women, sponsorship for disabled children, and summer camps for handicapped and able-bodied children to interact.
