One Country, Many Takes

If the West’s view of Palestine were a type of film, it would surely be a high-contrast kind, designed to catch only the most extreme darks and lights of each scene. To bring European audiences a fuller, deeper vision of the country, its people and its many cinematic directions, the fourth annual Madrid Palestinian Film Festival is screening 18 films by Palestinian filmmakers.

Centered around International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29, the festival is “a place for reflection, knowledge and recognition” which runs from November 22 to December 8. Over 100 films have been screened at the festival over the last three years; this edition includes Khaled Jarrar’s “Infiltrators”, which portrays the efforts of several Palestinians to cross the seven-meter-high Israeli separation wall, and “The Dinner”, a short film by Mais Darwazah that forms one segment of an Arab collective feature documentary on identity.
