A Shield of Many Colors

Thanks to the Jordan River Foundation, Jordan is widely held to be the first country in the region to treat child abuse frankly. This season, the JRF continued to focus healing light on a painfully dark subject through a children’s art contest with an anti-violence message.

Under the banner “Colors Against Abuse”, the campaign sought drawings illustrating children’s protection from all forms of abuse, whether verbal, physical, or sexual. The top ten drawings will be printed on brochures and posters and distributed to schools and offices throughout the kingdom.

The JRF works to create a safe, healthy environment for Jordanian kids and to provide them with abuse prevention and intervention services. Its child safety program comprises three parts: Dar Al Amman, a therapeutic center, the Queen Rania Family and Child Center, which provides preventive and awareness-raising programs, and 110 for Families and Children, a free helpline offering psychological support for families.
