Arab Version of ‘Les Miserables’ Tours US

“There is nothing like a dream to create the future”, says Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. Inspired by the strength of its words, and by the magical way it paints a landscape so similar to today’s Egypt, a performance troupe called Fabrica took on a challenging task: performing the masterpiece in Arabic.

Made up of young Egyptian talent, Fabrica is an artistic educational project for Musical Theater in Egypt. And an ambitious one: their version is not only socially connected to the Egyptian reality but also speaks their same language.

“Singing in the language of the country allows to reach people; this was my dream, to translate musicals into colloquial Egyptian Arabic”, says the play’s director Nevein Allouba.

Sponsored by the US Embassy and with the support of Meridian International and Izdahar, they will be embarking on their first tour across the US this month, with performances in Washington DC, New York City, Boston, and Vermont.
