“This is the world cup that matters”

No rights, no choice, no voice. Nearly one million children live and work on the streets in Egypt. Stigmatized and deprived of their rights, they are often treated as nobodies. What if someone put them in the spotlight to play at the 2014 World Cup? 

This was the idea behind the Street Child World Cup, a global movement that reunites street children ahead of each FIFA World Cup to play in a parallel championship. This time around, three Egyptian NGOs have joined efforts to take the Egyptian Team to Rio de Janeiro.

Through football, art and campaigning, they aim to challenge the negative perceptions and social treatment they receive. They help nobodies become somebodies. Together with Ana el Masry, FACE and Hope Village Society, trainer Karim Hosny brings hope and inspiration to a team of 18 street children that have been training for a year to play in Brazil next march.
