Training Youth To Film Their Own Stories

There is no more powerful means of self-representation than film. To give that power to young Palestinians, the Palestine Film Commission has launched a workshop, “Films Tell Our Life”, to train aspiring filmmakers in Jerusalem and Ramallah.

The project aims to support the Palestinian film and TV industry while opening young people’s eyes to film’s potential as a viable means of self-expression, and giving them with tools to tell and share their own stories. The first part of the workshop was launched on November 23; in the coming months, participants will create 10 short films, with the PFC providing all necessary equipment and support.

Founded in 2012, the PFC also works with younger students to promote film as an essential medium for enhancing freedom of expression and cultural exchange—one that can mirror Palestinian identity and culture and share them with the world. Most recently, “Bosta Cinema”  brought film screenings to kindergarteners and grade school students in Jerusalem in mid-November with support from the Youth for Jerusalem and Al-Razee associations.
