They’re four young artists with utterly diverse backgrounds and one urgent objective: to focus our gaze on the environment.

Together, Ghizlane Sahli, Katia Sahli, Saad Alami, and Othman Zine comprise Zbel Manifesto, whose innovative art denounces a consumer society which leaves behind it rubbish of all kinds. Their innovation is to turn the tables on what is normally considered art-worthy material—by using garbage to create unique and memorable installations.

These artists, whose training ranges from fashion, cinema, and photography to architecture and writing, spent almost 12 days developing an amazing facility, “Pimp my Garbage”, consisting of five parts: “Deep blue”, “welcome to the real world”, “Plastic Eden”, “Floating continent” and “Radioactive interactivity”, as an impressive maze of waste beautifully transformed.

This labyrinth represents a marvelous journey which begins with a corridor of suspended plastic bottles where the visitor will pleasantly feel surprised by the beauty of such a distinctive piece of art. Within, there is an ornate lounge containing a sofa, coffee table, chandelier and lamps, all fully covered with waste.

The artist collective’s witty and unorthodox aesthetic reflects our real world where over-consumption creates monstrous waste. It works to raise our awareness of this consumption so we can see reality as it is. For if we were really so fully aware of the world in which we live, we would see that our own living rooms are part and parcel of these created by Zbel Manifesto.
