Creative Lenses Show the Beauty of Al Ain City

The “Garden City of the Gulf”, Al Ain could capture the hearts of people all over the world with its glamorous beauty and its unique cultural heritage. Hence, the fans of this city were strongly motivated to take wonderful photographs to submit to the Al Ain Photographia Award online . Al Ain Photographia Award competition, an annual event for professional and amateur photographers, is organized by the Al Ain City Municipality under the patronage of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammad bin Khaled Al Nahyan. The mission of this event is to celebrate the best photographers dedicated to documenting and exploring the precious treasures of the magical city Al Ain .

The photo competition has been divided into 3 challenging categories: personalities and cultural icons, sustainability and lifestyle. On the 13th of May the winners of the Al Ain Photographia Award 2014 were finally announced and celebrated at a public ceremony held at the Al Ain City Municipality Auditorium. There are five winners in each category and they were awarded significant prizes and trophies. The best photography was by Roger Alfonso; his photography reflects  the big effort that is made to create a city that is truly sustainable and protect its essence whilst thoughtfully managing its development as a functioning human ecosystem. Through his photographs, he reveals the historic irrigation system which was built on the orders of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan to harness the available water resources for agriculture in the area. The ceremony showcased the winning projects, talks from the competition’s judges and a calligraphy performance. The creative director at Zaman Branding; John Eccles announced that “the Al Ain City Municipality will be using the participants’ images in Municipality promotional activities through the year”. He added “in the last competition, AACM produced calendars, diaries, some elegant advertising, posters even mugs and coasters that presented the images”.
