Forkit: Funding Meals Through Re-fashioned Forks

“It all started with one gift between me and my friend Abdallah in Beirut. I was always wearing my fork bracelet and it started getting a lot of attention from my friends and random people. So I thought, ‘why not bring it to the public but back it up with a good cause?’. From the actual function of the fork, it made sense to give back to the community in the form of food. The first person to jump in with all the help was my father, who was enthusiastic to see Forkit come alive,” says Samar Zureik, the woman behind Forkit.

ForkIt is a collaborative initiative, begun by Samar and her friends, family and co-workers at Leo Burnett Jordan, with special help by her friend Taraf Abu Hamadan, who did all the promotional photography of the items. All sales of the fork-bracelets, that are unisex, go directly to Family Kitchen Jordan, which uses the funds to provide meals to the less fortunate during Ramadan. Samar’s current goal is to reach 15 families by the end of Ramadan by selling 50 forkits. “The way I see Forkit is probably the same way it is today however on a larger scale; i.e. feeding more people. But I would love to see Forkit having a ripple effect in Jordan and other countries to see people wearing it as a sign of commitment to make our society better.”
