Bridging the Gap: Orient Spirit Teaches Life Skills

A vocational training center devoted to the training of individuals with learning impairments and special needs, Orient Spirit seeks to fill a gap desperately needed in this sector in Jordan. The main goal of Orient Spirit is to assist these individuals in learning skills that will allow them to lead productive, dynamic lives. The center utilizes a diversity of science-based habilitation and education programs, striving to let these individuals develop their natural talents while also learning useful tools for the future.

Orient Spirit understands that many of these individuals are filled with incredible potential, but too often lack the guidance and support to be creative and to develop their talents. In the region, another great challenge faced by those with special needs is overall acceptance and understanding in the community. This severely inhibits their development and leaves many of them without a means of livelihood or chance to reach their fullest potential.

Orient Spirit works with parents, employers, physicians and other specialists to create a self-sustaining system, allowing the students to become fully self-reliant and to integrate into the community. The center offers vocational training programs, courses and habilitation tools like job coaching, music, painting, drama, mosaic, accessory-making, personal hygiene courses, money management, cooking and recycling to name a few. Orient Spirit also has an internship program, which trains its students then sends them to intern at Tahboub and Geneva Hotel in Amman to gain practical working skills.

The programs are created to help individuals transform their skills into professions with the hope of achieving independence, individuality and self-empowerment.
