Lamborghinis Are So Last Year, Dubai Police to Now Wear Google Glass

Dubai continues its goal to ensure it has the smartest police force in the world by 2018 by distributing Google Glass to its police departments. Coupled with last year’s announcement that Dubai would supply its law enforcement with $400,000 Lamborghini’s sports cars, it seems becoming a policeman in Dubai equates to owning a startup in Silicon Valley.

The Dubai police force has developed facial recognition software for Google Glass that connects to their database of wanted people. If the camera on Glass recognizes a suspect, it will alert the officer wearing the device. In the first phase of the rollout, beat officers will be using Google Glass to tackle traffic violations and track vehicles suspected of motoring offenses. In the second phase, the wearables will be distributed to Dubai’s detectives.

Google Glass is a wearable technology with a computer-powered heads-up display that delivers news, directions, Google searches and information from apps. The device costs $1,500.
