Throwback Thursday: Can You Believe Alexandria’s People Were so Different 50 Years Ago?

Alexandria’s beautiful beaches, the city’s residents diving into the sea, its mothers sunbathing under parasols, the city’s public swimming pools, and its clean, green boulevards: the ‘bride of the Mediterranean’, as we have never seen it.

For this #ThrowbackThursday, we chose “Magic carpet land”, a video recently released by the British archival footage company Pathé, showcasing the beauty and history of legendary Alexandria, filmed in 1963.

The video takes us on a chariot ride throughout the history of a city dominated by Romans, Turks and Arabs. But for the viewers, it is a two-fold journey: as the video comments explore the ancient pharaonic history, we submerge into the reality of Alexandria’s people in the 1960s.
