One has a mesmerizing voice; the other, the gift of the word. Together, Rihan and Faia Younan make up a heartbreakingly beautiful tribute to Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. In a world where screams sound all too shallow, poetry and music speak louder.
Their video “To Our Countries”, launched last October 9, has been watched over 250,000 times in three days, an eloquent proof that the beauty of these countries lives in their people. “I just love it so much and it’s so painful to watch”, tweets @lostSoul117, summarizing the mixture of pain and hope the video crystallizes.
The two Syrian sisters, who were raised in Aleppo and now live in Sweden, felt they had to unite their passions in a common call for the Middle East’s war-torn countries. “Rihan told me what is happening in the region. She is the journalist. And I started to sing — for every country she mentioned I came up with a song,” said Faia in an interview with ADFA.
