The Importance of Gratitude: What Are We Thankful For?

Aesop, the ancient Greek storyteller once said “gratitude is a sign of noble souls.” As yesterday was Thanksgiving in the United States, it had us here at BarakaBits thinking about what we are grateful for. Sometimes it’s easy for us all to get so caught up in work and school and daily life activities that we forget to stop for a second and think about all the blessings in our lives. It may sound cheesy, but gratitude has been known to make a big difference in general feelings of self-worth, happiness and productivity.

Happier Human, a positive psychology website, has done several studies to this effect. “A five-minute a day gratitude journal can increase your long-term well-being by more than 10 percent,” states the site. So we all wrote down a couple things we are thankful for.

What are you thankful for? Try writing those things down, and notice how difficult it may be just to narrow it down to one or two things. There is so much to be grateful for, and by realizing that, we open ourselves up to more.
