At the tender age of five, Palestinian-Syrian Suad Bushnaq began playing piano. It was just four years later that she was improvising and composing her own pieces. She went on to study at the National Music Conservatory in Amman, studying with pianist and composer Agnes Bashir-Dzodtsoeva. It was Agnes who noticed Suad’s unique musical talents, and helped propel her into a future of musical greatness. Now, Suad is one of very few Arab women composers, and the youngest member of the Arab Alliance of Women in Music. Among her impressive collection of works are a commission for Ateek Ensemble, various music composed for films and documentaries, and music for the Arab Development Initiative.
Now, Suad has recently created a recomposition of a well-known Andalusian song Lamma Bada Yatathanna. Her compelling vision and ability to compose music that harmoniously combines Middle Eastern tone with Western theory makes her a unique asset to the international musical community. Suad is currently based in Montreal, Canada.
Also seen in the video is an Egyptian guitarist, a Turkish qanuun player, and an Iraqi percussionist.
