England Celebrates Palestine Cinema at the London Palestine Film Festival

Opening with Najwa Najjar’s Oscar nominated Eyes of a Thief, the annual London Palestine Film Festival kicked off last November 28, presenting two weeks of Palestine’s latest releases, selected archive screenings, and discussion panels.

The event also includes a panel on “Palestine on UK TV, Historic Reflections” and a lecture on “The Architecture of Violence” with Eyal Weizman. Among the highlights, Mais Darwazah’s 2013 documentary My Love Awaits Me by the Sea, which was recently awarded in Portugal and Argentina, and  the Suspended Time, a compilation of shorts in which Palestinian filmmakers reflect on the twentieth anniversary of the 1993 Oslo accords.

The festival also features archive screenings, such as Soviet documentary The Middle East: Pain, Anxiety, Hope, and The Palestinians (1988), a survey of Palestine’s modern history.
