A year ago, we wrote about Superhope, a non-profit initiative that was launched in January 2014 with the goal of building a support system of positivity and strength for children battling cancer. Armed with a team of creatives, the Superhope initiative creates experiences that build children’s positive mental attitude and empower them through their daily struggles. Designed with the goal of using creativity as a source of happiness and strength, the team hopes to teach children that through determination, a positive spirit and love, overcoming anything is possible.
The Superhope campaign is implemented over 4 phases, the first being actually meeting the children. The children are then asked the question, “If you were a superhero, what would you be?”. Then, a talented comic illustrator actually sketches out the children’s responses, and their measurements are taken for a costume as an additional surprise. In phase 3, the costumes are revealed to the children, and a photo shoot session is arranged for the children. Throughout all phases, local talents are hired to help carry out the plans, engaging both children and locals in the experience. Superhope also filmed a video for their first campaign, which was held in UAE at the Tawam Hospital, that captured the entire process on film, which can be viewed on their official website.
Now, Superhope is working with 9 children from the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, California. They are currently on phase 2, and are working with incredibly talented local artists who are helping to carry out an meaningful, exciting campaign for the children and their families. The photoshoots will take place on February 13th, and then Superhope will begin working to create the final series of photos of the Superhero children.
