A Sustainable Oral Solution…Made from a Tree?

Miswak, also referred to in Arabic as “Al Sawak”, is a twig made from the Arak tree known for it’s teeth cleaning capabilities. A sustainable alternative to the modern toothbrush, the miswak is celebrated for its medicinal benefits, as well as its teeth whitening abilities. Popular in many parts of the Gulf area, North Africa, and even Southeast Asia, an innovative young entrepreneur named Hussna El Yacoubi is trying to bring the miswak the international attention it deserves as an oral hygiene alternative.

Now, she is working on launching her product, the True Brush, a miswak packaged completely from recycled material, that reduces waste and is more hygienic than the average toothbrush. Hussna has been working tirelessly on her product and is now in the stage where she hopes it can become mass produced. Launching her kick starter campaign, she hopes she can raise enough money to purchase the manufacturing materials to make this product a reality. “I’ve put my heart and soul into this campaign in hopes that the public sees the vision I have seen for years now, supporting oral care naturally on the go. It is not only good for you, but good for our environment,” she adds. For every true brush purchased, Hussna will also donate one to a homeless person. Now that’s a cause we can get behind.
