Egypt, Represented By a Ground-Breaking Artist At Paris’ Louvre Museum

A ground-breaking DJ deeply inhabited by science fiction, Jeff Mills combines different forms of art, from music, to cinematography and choreography to craft conceptual performances that push the boundaries of artistic genres.

Next March 6th, the artist will present a performance in tribute to ancient Egypt at the Louvre Museum, entitled “Life to Death and Back“. Resonating with the Ancient Egyptian Collections present at the Louvre, Mills revisits the idea of the “cycle”: the circadian cycle of the appearance and disappearance of the Sun, the cycle of drought and flooding of the Nile river, the cycle of birth and death of beings.

In collaboration with French choreographer Michel Abdoul and three contemporary dancers, Mills mixes conceptual music, loops and samples with the body movements of the dancers on stage, mirroring their own image on the screen – as if he stole their images in order to confront them to the testimony of Past. The performance is part of “Carte Blanche”, a commission he was given by the Auditorium of the Louvre Museum to be the 9th resident artist of “Duos Ephémères” for the year 2015, a program of 4 different shows mixing music, film and dance.
