4 Quirky Wedding Traditions in the Arab Region

Weddings are celebrations that honour and acknowledge the marriage of two people. In Arab regions, weddings are also called “Farah”. Each region has its own wedding traditions. Arabs wedding traditions are so unique and a bit bizarre. Here are the top 4 quirky wedding traditions in the Arab region.

1. Al Zagharid – Old women always perform zagharid in weddings in which they sing a couple of rhyming verses addressing the bride and the groom wishing them joy and happiness, and then end them by saying ‘leleleleleleesh’ which is a sound that’s a result of moving the tongue to the right then to the left constantly.

    

2. Al Zaffa – In other countries, the groom simply welcomes his bride in the wedding hall. Well, in Arab countries, they don’t just simply do that. A professional band is hired where each member owns and plays on a musical instrument such as the ‘tabla’, ‘durbakkah’, ‘daf’, and ‘al qerba’. This band will go the groom’s house and perform right at the door and them accompany him to the bride’s house and do another performance over there. A third performance would be done by the band at the wedding hall in order for the invitees to welcome the groom and the bride.

    

3. The Wedding Dough – After the wedding ends, the parents accompany the groom and the bride to their house where both, the groom and the bride, hold a piece of dough, which is made from dough mixed with flowers, and then paste it at the front door as a sign of stability and firmness. 
4. The Fancy Breakfast – On the day following the wedding night, both the groom’s mother and the bride’s mother visit their children and bring them a very fancy breakfast.
