Giza Zoo: The Largest Zoological Museum in the Middle East

Located in Egypt, the Giza Zoological Museum is home to 65 species of mammals, 65 species of birds, & 25 species of reptiles (that’s more than 4000 specimens!). It holds crocodiles, bears, birds, dogs and many, many more! Today, it is the first and largest zoological museum in the Middle East!

Khedive Ismail turned the harems of the land into this zoo way back in 1891 and it has now expanded to include several surrounding buildings and lands. In 2015, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb re-opened the museum after years of renovation. Now, it covers around 80 acres of land. That’s pretty spacious even by European standards! In addition to various types of animals on display,  it is  proud to have the skeleton of a whale attracting attention inside.

The official website and Facebook page of the Zoo are always updating visitors about their newest additions and changes. Take a tour of the museum and let us know what you think. Don’t forget to smile!
