Travel in Time to Year 2035 with Dubai’s Museum of the Future

‘See the future, create the future’

Imagine a world in which implants could allow two brains to communicate directly, a machine could instantly alter your mood, a hub where you can upload your dreams for your friends to see, and smart technology that could allow you to climb walls without falling! Sounds like a script from a Sci-fi movie, right? Well, with Dubai’s Museum of the Future you no longer need to imagine. Here, you will be able to travel in time to year 2035 and catch a glimpse of what the near future has in store for us. And from the looks of it, year 2035 is great, as you may be able to eat all the food you want without worry of gaining weight!

About two weeks ago, on the eve of the 2016 World Government Summit, the Museum opened its doors to the public, allowing visitors to get a taste of what year 2035 may actually be like. Guests were able to view and interact with displays of existing cutting-edge technology, as well as theoretical devices that would allow us to enhance our mental, emotional and physical capabilities.

Such devices will be providing us with answers to major questions, such as ‘Will you replace your cardiac muscle if it means you will be able to live longer?’ ‘Will you add robotic parts to your children to improve their school performance?. They will even be informing us of what career we should be pursuing! Overwhelming, right? Well, many of the visitors shared split opinions regarding the potential benefits and ethics of the futuristic machines that were showcased in the exhibit. Intrigued, while at the same time concerned, many parents, were not too keen on the device “NewKnees” that give its users, namely their children or by then their grandchildren, superhuman abilities to run and jump.

Like many of Dubai’s buildings, the Museum is exquisitely designed with a curved steel exterior oval-like shaped with an interior hollow. And according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the exterior actually incorporates verses from HH Sheikh Mohammed Al-Maktoom’s poetry. What’s more is that major sections of the $136 million building will be built using 3D printing construction technique. The Museum is located at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai and is a seven-minute drive from Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Dr Noah Raford, Chief Operating Officer at the Museum of the Future, expects to see ground broken on the Museum’s permanent site in a few months and will be fully open in December 2018.

And as HH Sheikh Mohammed Al-Maktoom said during the launch:

“The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create.”
