Autistic Syrian Refugees Have Hope For the Future

Meet Ali, an orphaned Syrian refugee who made it to Turkey. Ali, diagnosed with autism, has been placed in a school in Turkey, alongside 160 other Syrian students who also have autism. Due to this disorder,  he, and these other children, have difficulty communicating with other people, and may sometimes reflect their frustration in negative behavior. Currently, the teachers at the school are finding it challenging to manage such behavior as they don’t have the necessary expertise to do so. Therefore, as a result of this misbehavior and lack of communication, Ali and the others may very well not be allowed to return to school. However, the Global Voice for Autism Organization has stepped in to save these children’s future!

Global Voice for Autism, founded by Melissa Diamond in 2012, is a U.S. non-profit organization that supports children with autism in conflict-affected communities. Considering that these Syrian refugees are often overlooked, this organization is working to change this by working with a school for Syrian refugees in Turkey to provide the necessary training, support, and education that will equip that community to support these children with autism.

The organization is looking to reach their goal of $20,000 by this April 30th, in order to move forward with their new project and help these 160 children return to school in the fall. You can help by donating here and playing a part in helping these children have hope for the future.
