5 Ways To Get Rid of Boredom and Hunger in Ramadan

Two weeks down, 2 to go! I’m sure many of you have already gotten used to the squeaky, grumbly stomachs already, but for the most part, what on Earth can you do to get your mind off of food? Although there isn’t much to do with depleted energy, here are 5 things besides sleeping that are actually beneficial for you, particularly during the month of Ramadan:

1- Get in touch with your spirit: Sounds so zen, right? Ramadan is known to be the month where Muslims become closer to God, so the one thing a person can do to do so is to free your mind! How do you do that? You can focus on helping others and improving  yourself, by finding a new educational book to get absorbed in and even doing some quiet reflecting. If that doesn’t help, just grab that spiritual book on Islam and/or read Quran. This will help you get closer to your faith.

2- Set some goals: This is the perfect time to take yourself up on your New Year’s Resolution. Figure out what you need to change in your life, and work on it!

3- Give, give, give and give some more!: As a Muslim, charity or ‘Zakah’ is an obligation. So during this month of giving, why not go around town and connect with local communities to learn of places who actively help those in need. Finding these places that need donations or any types of volunteer work will keep you busy, stave off your hunger, as well as rack up your Hasanat (credit for good deeds in Islam)!

4- Pick up a hobby: Maybe you have a long-buried hobby, collecting dust in some corner of your home (or mind). With all this time on your hands, why not get to it? Whether its gardening, knitting, or even wood-working, just pick up those tools and have fun killing time!

5- Set aside some Family time: For those who have children or younger siblings, now is the time to connect more. Put your cell-phones down and do some things together, like memorizing or reading Quran, engaging them your hobbies, allowing them to help you prepare Iftar or just getting together and learning how to make some festive Ramadan origami!

These aren’t all the things you can do to bust your Ramadan Boredom, but they should hopefully give you an idea!
