Egyptian Start-up Instabug Raises $1.7 million in Seed Round

A startup founded by two Egyptian graduates during the turmoil of the Egyptian revolution, would not normally provoke thoughts of success and leadership. However, emerging from the Arab Spring, Instabug was able to make it through Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 class and raise $1.7 M in a seed round led by Accel Partners.      

All of us are familiar with the inconvenient bugs that disrupt our ultimate use of mobile apps. Moataz Soliman and Omar Gabr, founders of Instabug, set out in 2013 to solve systems’ bugs by simplifying the process of bug reporting for app developers. Instabug makes it easier for mobile users to report bugs, send feedback and ask questions by simply shaking their phones. The program then automatically takes screenshots, attaches the device details, captures the problem, and sends a report to the developer so that they can fix the bug. Thanks to Instabug,  App users no longer have to go through the hustle of filing their problems through email. They now can do so the Instabug way!  

Instabug has a very good reputation among its users. Darius Emrani, a manager at Yahoo describes Yahoo’s experience with Instabug saying:

“As soon as we integrated the SDK and saw our first bug report we knew that we’d made the right choice. It was just so easy and seamless! Now we have instant feedback from our users, which is greatly accelerating product development.”

The significance of integrating Instabug SDK into apps captured the attention of Y Combinator, an American seed accelerator. This company helped Instabug in raising about $1.7M to expand their work beyond mobile app bug reporting.

According to a techcrunch report, Instabug now reports across 12,000 apps, including 26 of the top 100 apps in the app store. It is also present in almost 300 million iOS and android devices. Instabug is now used by well known companies like Yahoo, SoundCloud and Buzzfeed.

The internationally growing company still works out of Egypt challenging obstacles and proving that success can be carried in the most unlikely places.
