A true artist will have no trouble choosing the best canvas fit for his/her artistic imagination’s needs. Whether the artist chooses to express his/her art onto paper, a cactus, or even inside a coffee mug, art is something that can adopt any surface as its own. Palestinian artist Jomana Zoabi, from a town called Nin near Nazareth, has chosen the smooth surface of stones to express herself. To get to know her better, BarakaBits put together a few questions. Check out how she responds to them below:

1- What inspired you to use stones as your art canvas?

“I’m a person who naturally likes anything related to art and inspiration. My love for nature got me to turn to stones for art and when I noticed that the results turned out very well, I continued with stones.”

2- How did you feel about people’s reaction to your work? Do you sell your work?

“The people’s reaction to my work makes me feel extremely happy. This specific type of art is more common in Western countries, so I am happy that the people here got to know it more throughout my work.”

“After uploading my first attempt on FB and seeing the positive reaction from my family and friends, I began selling them at their own request. Every now and then I display my work in art exhibitions for sale.”

3- What is your educational background?

“I studied Architectural Engineering and Accounting, but I did not find myself in any of the jobs in this field. I couldn’t live the routine life of working between 4 walls. So I decided to do something I love to relieve the pressure inside as well as make something that gives off positive energy.”

5- What do you use to create your artwork?

“My supplies are very simple, just paint and a brush! There is no rule or restriction to what you can use, just use whatever your current piece of art may need. You can use leaves, a pencil eraser, or even a small cup of coffee to satisfy your artistic needs.”
