JCI Honours Two Syrians For Their Outstanding Contributions

For more than 100 years JCI, Junior Chamber International, has been honoring young people who are dedicated to creating change within their communities. This non-profit organization has pushed young people, 18 to 40 years old, to come up with innovative solutions that contribute to the advancement of their communities and to the world in general. This year two remarkable people from Syria have made it to JCI’s list of the ten most outstanding young persons of the world. These two will be honored at the 2016 JCI awards ceremony on November 3rd.

With the ongoing war, no other country is in need of the positive driving force of the public more than Syria; and Syrians have proved that they will always be there to lift their country. Meet Huda Kaakeh and Shadi Alalshi! Two Syrians who took voluntary work to the next level to preserve their beloved community.

As the war exacerbated, Huda Kaakeh noticed the growing number of children dropping out of school and she decided to do something about it. Roaming Syria’s rural communities, she persuaded many families of sending their children to functioning schooling centers. She worked closely with Syrian children, families, internally displaced individuals, women and adolescents providing for those in need for food and sheltering war victims. Huda’s wholehearted contribution to children, world peace and human rights insured her place as one of the most outstanding young people in the world. She was name a 2016 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World recipient in the category of contribution to children, world peace, and/or human rights.  

Shadi Alalshi, CEO of The Syria Trust for Development , took dedication to another level when he expanded his humanitarian work to include deteriorating regions as the war went further. Through Syria Trust, he didn’t only aid those in need but also went further to providing training programs, coaching, and financial support to suffering citizens. In addition, he helped in the rehabilitation of many buildings making them an appropriate shelter for refugees. Shadi received the 2016 JCI outstanding young person award in the category of the humanitarian and/ or voluntary leadership.

Both Kaakeh and Alalshi set an example for what true citizenship and humanity means.
