Gaza Sky Geeks is the first and only startup accelerator in Gaza. Founded in 2011, the young accelerator is creating an innovative startup community and a suitable workspace that truly allows Palestinian entrepreneurs the chance to fulfill their dreams of establishing their own startups, despite the severe conditions in Gaza. In fact, in June, amidst the Israeli airstrikes, Gaza Sky Geeks managed to host their largest ever Startup Weekend, with more than 650 applicants.
However, in order to help in rebuilding a devastated Gaza, much of Gaza Sky Geek’s funding has been redirected to humanitarian efforts. While they have a long-term sustainability plan, Gaza Sky Geeks understands that, in the short term, it has to rely on philanthropic funding. This is why the accelerator is now turning to the global community for help by launching a crowdfunding campaign on October 13 to continue operating. Contributions from the campaign will go directly to the costs of operating the accelerator space, including rent and utilities.
