Did you know that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for women aged 20-59 in Saudi Arabia? Did you know that in Saudi Arabia, the number of new cases of cancer is 2741 including about 19.9% of breast cancer in women? Did you know that in the United States, 50% of new breast cancer cases occur in women over the age of 65 years, while in the Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, it usually occurs in women at the age of 52?

These deteriorating numbers and figures have motivated and triggered Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al Saud to take action. Princess Reema is a founding member of the Zahra Breast Cancer Awareness Association, based in Riyadh. The mission of the organization is to “increase and spread awareness among women across the country for early detection, prevention and treatment of the disease, and cooperate with women diagnosed with breast cancer on a step-by-step basis for treatment and ultimate recovery. Her work with Zahra also includes organizing the world’s largest human pink ribbon in 2010. This effort was recognized as the winner of the Holmes Report Golden Sabre Award for the Best Publicity Stunt Category and the Platinum Sabre Award for Best PR Programme.

In collaboration with Dr. Modia Batterjee DHA, Princess Reema has founded 10KSA as both a communal gathering within Saudi Arabia and a global effort to raise breast cancer awareness and encourage education and community.

On December 12, 2015, 10 KSA will host an event that will bring together 10,000 women in Riyadh to form a human pink ribbon and thus raise funds for the Zahra Breast Cancer Awareness Association. The all day event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will host a variety of educational speakers and include a colorful celebration of life and good health. Mammograms, spa and fitness activities, healthy foods from community vendors, goods from local designers, comedians and other entertainment will make the day unforgettable.

10KSA is for her, for you, for every single one of us. 10,000 strong will gather in Saudi Arabia. But 10KSA is also thousands, millions, more – supporters like you, participating virtually around the globe, passionately united by a shared, shining vision.

For more information, visit 10KSA’s website here and Princess Reema’s Twitter account.
