Being raised by Arab parents does have its perks! We’ve all carried with us a few things common in all Arab households. Whether its certain phrases, actions, or habits, we’ve all been through it! So check out this list of things that Arabs can relate to, put together for your entertainment!
- الاب دايما بسب ع حاله/ يلعن ابوكو / Fathers have a habit of unintentionally cursing themselves, Yel3an Abook!
- يوجد كيس بالمطبخ. اسمه كيس الاكياس !!! One thing an Arab household is never empty of, a bag for all your bags.
- عندهم ولد شاطر ” بس لو يشد حاله ” When neighbors are gossiping about their other neighbor’s son, “They have a smart child if he can get himself together.”
- بس يطلعوا طشة . لازم ينكدوا ع بعض و يعملوا طوشة قبل ما يطلعوا Before going out somewhere, they simply must argue with each other and annoy each other first!
- فنجان قهوة بعلبة السكر There’s a small coffee cup in the sugar jar.
- بخلوا ضو الدار شغال عشان “يخدعوا الحرامي They leave the house lights on to trick any potential burglars.
- دايما غطا الريموت ضايع The battery cover for the remote is always lost.
- بلايز الولاد بس تخلص صلاحيتها بتصير ممسحة غبرة Nothing goes to waste, all old t-shirts become mop rags.
- علبة الماكنتوش بتفكر فيها شوكلاتة.. بيطلع فيها خيطان و إبر You approach the cookie box slowly, only to find it full of sewing materials! True story bro..
- كل عائلة عندها واحد اسمه محمد وفي رواية أخرى أحمد وغالبا بيكون أكبر واحد Every family has a Mohammed or Ahmad and he’s usually the eldest!
- الشاي بالعلبة المكتوب عليها “ملح” مش شايف يا أحول !!! Hey cross-eye, can’t you see that the tea bags are in the jar labeled ‘salt’?!
- نص ليمونة بالثلاجة There’s half a lemon in the refrigerator door, all comfy between the eggs.
- مقص الاظافر دايما ضايع The nail clippers are always lost!
- بس يطلعوا بحطوا مفتاح الدار تحت الشبشب او جوا كندرة الأب جنب الباب او تحت ممسحة الباب او جوا علبة النيدو اللي فيها وردة مزروعة When they leave the house they hide the keys under a shoe or inside dad’s shoe or next to the door or under the door mat or even inside the Nido can that has a flower planted inside.
- يوم الجمعة بتغدوا مقلوبة The traditional Friday dinner is Maqlooba.
- بس يخلص الشامبو.. بيضيفوا عليه مي When the shampoo nears it’s end, water is added. Nothing is wasted remember?
- الأب بعرف يصلح كل أدوات الكهربا… وبعد التصليح قصدي “التخريب” يقول مقولته الشهيرة ” زتها في الزبالة هاي ما بتتصلح ولا كان صلحتها يلعن أبوكو على ابو الي جابكو Father’s claim that they can fix all electrical appliances, and when they’re done messing things up, they tell you to throw it away because its un-fixable!
